Shear lag in concrete bridges
Abstract
In concrete birdges little attention is actually given to stress calculations in Serviceabilty Limit State, although all code of practice required it. For this calculations allowance for in plane-shear flexibility in the flange (shear lag) should be made by using an effective breadth of flange (DIN 18809 and AASHTO). Stress calculations don't influence the design of well designed sections, and they are a guarantee of durability and good behaviour of structure.
