Abstract

The Ting Kau bridge has been designed as a composite deck cable stayed bridge 1177 m. lenght with 1695 m. total length of prestressed concrete box girder approaches. The cable stayed bridge has three single pillons with spans of 127 + 448 + 475 + 127 m. The width allows three lanes in each direction and jointing ramps. The approach structures, cantilever construction mainly, have variable spans, with 115 m. maximum lentgh. The article includes a justification of the selected structural solution, as well as a description of the main characteristics of the Project, design criteria, construction methods and singularities, giving cuantities and production rates. Wind tunnel tests carried out to study the aerodinamic behaviour of the cable stayed bridge are also detailed.
